Steps on the Hapki way

Stepping stones across a pond.
Steps on the path.

An attacker throws a punch, I blend with his energy and throw him… that’s Hapki (harmonious energy).

A man on the street speaks to me aggressively, insulting me. I wave him off and walk away. That’s Hapki as well.

A stranger smiles and says, “Good morning.” I smile back and return the greeting. That too is Hapki.

These are all steps on the way that is Hapkido.

  1. I’m not pretending that Hapkido is a religion. But a “do” is a way of life. In this case, a way of life based on harmonizing energy, persistence (water principle) and flexibility (reed in the wind principle).
