Excited about Guro Dan Inosanto Seminar

I’ll be attending a two-day seminar with Guro Dan Inosanto in Stockton, California this weekend. He will be teaching Maphilindo Silat. I’m excited.

Dan Inosanto is perhaps the greatest living martial artist. He is the inheritor of Jeet Kune Do, the founder of Maphilindo Silat, has black belts in Kempo Karate and Brazilian Jiujitsu, and is an instructor in Muay Thai, Eskrima, Kali, and Shoot Wrestling. He is one of a generation of extraordinarily skilled masters who are gradually passing away. They were men who dedicated their entire lives to the pursuit of martial knowledge. Inosanto is 78 years old now.

Dan is not only a storehouse of martial knowledge, he is a cultural treasure.

Here’s a demo that he put on at the Smithsonian in 2010. There’s a lot of talking, but Dan’s flow and expertise are extraordinary. His assistant Joel Clark (who will also be his assistant at the seminar) is a high-level master in his own right:

A few facts about Guru Dan Inosanto:

* Hundreds of master-level martial artists around the world were trained wholly or in part by him.

* He has published 6 books on martial arts, acted in 12 films, and been featured in 13 documentaries.

* He taught Bruce Lee the use of the nunchuks, as well as double stick.

I’ll let you know how it goes!
